Ariel YAU
Human civilization has always been built upon freshwater ecosystems. With civilization, comes an arsenal of historical texts. Whether it be poems, folklores or atlases, such documents are an often overlooked source of biodiversity information. I’m in the process of developing a project at the intersection of culture and historical ecology. Using societal perceptions we can infer ecological changes of species that utilise freshwater habitats at multiple temporal scales.
As a keen advocate for interdisciplinary approaches, I strive to bridge the gap between science and the public using research, wildlife photography (@ariel.atlas), science outreach (@ari.tofufaaa), illustrations (@mimi.bibop), and every other skill I’ve gained along the way.
